SOUTHBOUND I-35, TEXAS — Major lane reductions and ramp closures are underway along Southbound Interstate 35 between Mile Marker 160 and Mile Marker 163, spanning from Petroleum Drive to Frost Bank Center Drive. TxDOT has initiated nighttime closures impacting the Southbound I-35 main lanes and the connector ramp from Southbound I-410 to execute Phase 1 Step 1 of a scheduled traffic switch.
Work crews are closing alternating lanes, beginning with the center and right lanes before shifting to the center and left lanes, alongside intermittent entrance and exit ramp closures. Signed detours are in effect: W.W. White Road traffic is being routed to I-410 main lanes via the Rittiman Road turnaround, while frontage road motorists must bypass through the FM 78 and Binz intersections. Drivers seeking Exit 160 should detour via Exit 162 or Exit 159B for Walters Street.
The nighttime operations are scheduled to continue through the weekend, with all lanes and ramps scheduled to reopen by 5:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Motorists, dispatchers, and commercial carriers traveling through northeast Bexar County should anticipate severe delays, plan alternate routes, and reduce speeds through the work zone. We will update this report as TxDOT releases further updates or if closures clear ahead of schedule.
