US 281, TEXAS — Both the northbound and southbound main lanes of US 281 are closed near the Loop 1604 interchange between mile marker 0524 and mile marker 0522. The full closure spans from approximately 0.75 miles south of Loop 1604 to 0.7 miles north of Loop 1604, completely halting through-traffic along the corridor.
TxDOT crews have shut down the main lanes to conduct ongoing bridge work. While the direct connector exits remain open to traffic, all main lane motorists are being diverted onto designated, marked detour routes where significant congestion is expected.
The closure began at 9:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2026, and is scheduled to remain in effect until approximately 5:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Commercial truck drivers and local motorists should adjust travel schedules, anticipate severe delays through the work zone, or seek alternate north-south routes. We will update this report as new information becomes available.
