EAST/WESTBOUND FM-973, TEXAS — Both eastbound and westbound lanes of FM-973 are subject to major travel disruptions and detours between 2.3 miles and 0.88 miles south of FM-812, around mile marker 0458. The roadway is covered in hazardous ice, and blowing snow has produced dangerously low visibility across the corridor.
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) winter weather crews are actively patrolling the corridor and operating plows to address the frozen conditions. Official detours are in place to divert traffic around the heavily impacted stretch.
TxDOT has categorized the incident at maximum severity, with safety advisories and ongoing treatment operations currently scheduled to remain in effect through July 30, 2027, at 4:45 PM.
Commercial truck drivers and motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area and delay travel due to the severe threat of black ice. We will update this report as more information becomes available.
