INTERSTATE 20, MIDLAND COUNTY, TEXAS — A major roadway closure is in effect on Interstate 20 in both eastbound and westbound directions from Mile Marker 125 to Mile Marker 128. The closure extends from approximately 1.3 miles west of FM-1788 to 1.3 miles east of FM-1788, creating a maximum-severity impact on corridor travel.
Highway crews have implemented a mandatory detour around the active work zone. All mainline traffic is being routed off the primary lanes and directed onto the marked alternate route to navigate around ongoing construction operations.
TxDOT crews initiated the long-term work zone on October 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The construction closure and detour are scheduled to remain in place until approximately December 7, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
Commercial truck drivers and dispatchers should plan for potential bottlenecks, observe posted detour signs, and consider regional bypass routes to prevent transit delays. We will update this report as additional lane reopening details or TxDOT advisories become available.
