EAST/WESTBOUND SH-71, TEXAS — Both eastbound and westbound lanes of SH-71 are experiencing major disruptions between mile markers 0576 and 0590, extending from west of FM-1209 to west of Burleson Road. Hazardous conditions caused by black ice and blowing snow have resulted in low visibility, severe delays, and active detours across the corridor.
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) winter maintenance teams are deployed throughout the zone, actively plowing and patrolling the highway to address roadway freezing. Detour routes have been implemented to divert commercial and local traffic around the most hazardous stretches.
TxDOT reports an active clearance timeframe stretching through July 30, 2027, as crews work to maintain safety along the corridor until the roadway is fully cleared and stabilized.
Motorists, dispatchers, and commercial carriers are strongly discouraged from traveling through this section of SH-71 due to unpredictable black ice and near-zero visibility. We will update this report as TxDOT issues further operational updates.
