RM-2244, TRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS — Severe winter weather and hazardous road conditions have prompted active detours and significant delays along RM-2244 in both northbound and southbound directions. The affected corridor extends from mile marker 0544 to mile marker 0534, between 1.58 miles east of Walsh Tarlton Lane and 0.16 miles east of State Highway 71. Severe black ice and low visibility caused by blowing snow have made the roadway impassable for normal traffic flows, leading officials to discourage all non-essential travel.
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) winter response units are actively patrolling the corridor and operating snowplows to clear accumulated snow and treat ice-covered pavement. Law enforcement and highway personnel have established detours to manage traffic flow around the most hazardous stretches while maintenance operations continue.
Due to the extent of the icing across the route, TxDOT currently estimates clearance operations and emergency traffic management will remain active through July 30, 2027, at approximately 4:45 PM, though reopening timelines will be updated as conditions evolve.
Commercial truck drivers and dispatchers are strongly advised to seek alternate routes, reduce speeds, and exercise extreme caution when navigating nearby corridors. We will update this report as TxDOT provides further condition assessments and clearance updates.
