US-83, TEXAS — Northbound and southbound traffic on US-83 is currently shifted between Mile Marker 346 and Mile Marker 344, extending from 0.33 miles north of FM-613 to just south of the US-84 split near Tuscola. All lanes between the Tuscola "Y" and Tuscola have been rerouted to the north side of the corridor to facilitate ongoing construction of the new southern roadway alignment, with active detours in place.
Work zone crews and flag personnel are actively directing traffic through the modified lanes. Drivers must prepare for sudden stops, follow on-site flagging directions, and adhere strictly to posted reduced speed limits through the work zone.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, this traffic shift and construction operation is scheduled to remain in effect until approximately 5:00 p.m. on December 31, 2026.
Commercial drivers and fleet dispatchers operating through Taylor County should account for lower transit speeds and maintain increased following distances through the split. We will update this report as new information becomes available.
