UPDATE: ROAD REOPENED - October 26, 2026 8:50 AM UTC US-87 has reopened to traffic in both directions between US-54 and US-385 following an earlier closure due to flooding.
US-87, TEXAS — US-87 is closed to all traffic in both northbound and southbound directions from south of US-54 to west of US-385, between mile markers 54 and 56. The highway is impassable due to flooded low water crossings, forcing a full shutdown of the corridor.
TxDOT crews have closed the roadway and established detours to route traffic around the hazard. Field teams remain on site monitoring flood levels and securing the perimeter.
Conditions are currently projected to persist until approximately 2:30 PM on October 26, 2026, when water is expected to recede sufficiently for safety inspections.
Commercial operators and motor carriers should map alternate routes around the area and avoid entering water-covered roadways. We will update this report as TxDOT releases further updates.
