UPDATE: ROAD REOPENED - October 26, 2026 12:25 PM UTC Both northbound and southbound lanes of US-87 between US-54 and US-385 have reopened following an earlier closure due to flooding.
US 87, TEXAS — Both northbound and southbound lanes of US 87 are fully closed between mile markers 54 and 56 due to floodwaters covering the highway. The closure extends from just south of US 54 to west of US 385.
Transportation crews have shut down all travel lanes to prevent motorists from encountering standing water. A formal detour is in place, directing all traffic to Spur 24 to reconnect with US 385.
TxDOT officials project that conditions may clear and lanes could reopen by approximately 4:00 PM, depending on water recession and subsequent roadway inspections.
Commercial truck drivers and dispatchers should reroute around the area and prepare for congestion along designated detour routes. We will update this report as soon as more details become available.
