US 290, TEXAS — A major 52-mile stretch of US-290 is completely closed in both eastbound and westbound directions due to severe icing and deep drifting snow. The full roadway shutdown extends from 0.48 miles west of US-183 to 0.93 miles east of FM-141, spanning mile markers 588 through 640.
TxDOT road crews are managing the scene, and active detours have been established to divert all commercial and passenger traffic away from the hazardous corridor.
Transportation officials project the roadway closure could remain in place through February 27, 2027, at 5:15 PM, subject to ongoing winter maintenance and clearing operations.
Motorists and freight dispatchers are advised to plan alternate routes and verify local travel conditions before dispatching equipment through this region. We will update this report as TxDOT provides additional clearance updates.
