SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Emergency crews responded to a major rollover accident late Saturday night that forced the complete closure of all main southbound lanes on Interstate 35 near Somerset Road.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. along the 8700 block of IH-35 South, involving a vehicle that overturned in the main travel lanes.
First responders and highway clearance teams closed all southbound main lanes to manage the wreckage, assist those involved, and clear debris from the interstate.
Transportation authorities issued a travel advisory discouraging drivers from taking IH-35 South through the South Side corridor. Motorists are urged to detour onto local frontage roads or seek alternate routes altogether, such as State Highway 16 or Loop 410, to avoid heavy congestion.
The main lane shutdown is anticipated to remain in place through 12:45 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026, as investigation and roadway restoration work continue.
Details regarding injuries or the number of vehicles involved have not yet been released.
We will update this report as soon as state police or local authorities confirm additional details.
