UPDATE: ROAD REOPENED - October 26, 2026 7:00 PM UTC FM-2479 has reopened in both directions from 6.348 miles north of FM-37 to 58 feet north of FM-37 following earlier water over the roadway.
FM 2479, TEXAS — High water has impacted travel on both northbound and southbound FM 2479 from approximately 6.3 miles north of FM 37 down to near the FM 37 junction, spanning mile markers 176 through 182. Water over the roadway has created significant driving hazards, prompting a high-severity alert for the corridor.
Highway personnel and local crews are actively monitoring the affected stretch to evaluate water levels and roadway conditions. No official detours are currently posted, but motorists are advised that standing water can conceal severe pavement damage and submerge vehicle tires.
TxDOT officials project the hazard will remain in place until approximately 5:00 PM today. Final clearance will depend on weather conditions, runoff rates, and post-recession safety inspections of the pavement.
Commercial truck drivers and commuters are urged to avoid the area and plan alternate routes around this section of FM 2479. We will update this report as additional details become available.
