UPDATE: CLOSURE NO LONGER LISTED AS ACTIVE As of October 23, 2026, DriveTexas no longer lists the closure on northbound and southbound SH-70 between FM-97 and SH-86 as active.
SH-70, TEXAS — State Highway 70 is fully closed to both northbound and southbound traffic between Mile Marker 170 and Mile Marker 182, extending from south of FM-97 to south of SH-86. The full roadway closure is required following bridge damage that has made the crossing impassable for all vehicles.
TxDOT crews have shut down the damaged structure and established official detour routes. Northbound SH-70 traffic is being detoured west on FM-97 to FM-599, continuing on FM-2733 to SH-86 before returning to SH-70. Southbound travelers are instructed to detour east on SH-86 to FM-2733, then take FM-599 and FM-97 back to SH-70.
Crews are actively addressing the infrastructure damage, with the roadway closure expected to remain in effect through 5:00 p.m. on October 28, 2026.
Commercial truck drivers and dispatchers should plan for additional travel time and ensure freight routes follow the designated detour corridors. We will update this report as TxDOT releases further structural assessments or schedule adjustments.
