SH-71, TRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS — Both eastbound and westbound lanes of SH-71 are experiencing major travel disruptions from Mile Marker 0576 (west of Burleson Road) to Mile Marker 0590 (west of FM-1209). Hazardous icy road conditions have rendered the corridor impassable in sections, prompting officials to strongly discourage travel along this stretch.
Traffic management crews have established active detours to redirect motorists away from the hazardous area. With the incident designated at a maximum severity rating of 5 out of 5, heavy congestion and prolonged backups are affecting both directions of travel.
TxDOT incident advisories currently place the estimated duration through August 25, 2027, at 4:30 PM, as ongoing weather operations and traffic control measures remain deployed.
Motorists, dispatchers, and commercial drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the corridor entirely until road conditions improve. We will update this report as soon as more information becomes available.
