SH-71, TRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS — Severe winter conditions have created hazardous driving surfaces along eastbound and westbound State Highway 71 from Mile Marker 576 near Burleson Road to Mile Marker 590 west of FM-1209. Ice and snow accumulation on bridges, overpasses, and main travel lanes has triggered maximum-severity traffic delays across the corridor.
Active detours have been established to direct traffic away from the affected roadway. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crews are deployed throughout the segment, actively plowing snow, treating iced pavement, and patrolling for stranded vehicles.
TxDOT currently projects ongoing operations and roadway impacts through April 22, 2027, at 5:45 p.m., subject to clearing operations and changing weather conditions.
Commercial drivers, fleet dispatchers, and motorists are strongly advised to seek alternate routes and avoid travel across untreated elevated structures. We will update this report as TxDOT releases further updates.
