SH-71, TEXAS — Severe winter conditions have prompted major delays and mandatory detours along both eastbound and westbound State Highway 71. The affected corridor extends between mile markers 0546 and 0566, from 2.625 miles west of US-290 to 3.722 miles west of RM-2322, with heavy snow and ice reported on main travel lanes, bridges, and overpasses.
TxDOT response crews are actively patrolling the route and conducting continuous plowing and surface treatment operations. Detours are in place to divert traffic around the most hazardous segments, and authorities are directing commercial and passenger traffic to seek alternate routes.
TxDOT currently estimates that weather mitigation operations and related travel restrictions will remain active through April 22, 2027, at approximately 5:45 p.m., subject to ongoing winter weather developments.
Truck drivers and dispatchers are advised to reroute freight around this segment and exercise extreme caution near bridges and elevated structures. We will update this report as TxDOT provides further clearance updates.
