UPDATE: ROAD REOPENED - October 26, 2026 7:15 PM UTC Eastbound I-40 near FM-1912 has reopened to traffic following the earlier main lane closure. The detour to the frontage road has ended.
EASTBOUND I-40, TEXAS — A severe traffic incident has completely shut down all eastbound main lanes of Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 81. The closure spans from approximately 0.22 miles west of FM-1912 to 0.23 miles east of the junction.
TxDOT and emergency personnel have closed the main travel lanes and established a detour directing all eastbound traffic onto the adjacent frontage road. Crews remain actively on-site managing the diversion and working to clear the roadway.
The incident was initially reported at 11:37 AM, with transportation officials estimating the highway will reopen by approximately 2:30 PM.
Motorists and commercial truck dispatchers should anticipate congestion along the frontage road detour and consider alternate eastbound routes through the area. We will update this report as new information becomes available.
