ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. - One person died early Wednesday morning following a fatal two vehicle crash in the Midlands, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. near Lake Marion in Orangeburg County. State troopers stated that a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling north on U.S. 301/Five Chop Road when it collided with a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer. According to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover, the semi truck was attempting to turn into the southbound lane at the intersection with Way Road.
The driver of the Chevrolet Camaro was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not yet publicly released the victim's identity.
The driver of the tractor trailer escaped uninjured, and no other injuries were reported. Authorities have not indicated whether seatbelts were worn by either driver at the time of the impact.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash.
