AUBURN, Maine - serious two vehicle collision Thursday evening left a driver with life threatening injuries after his car ran a red light and struck a tractor trailer at a busy intersection.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Street and Kittyhawk Avenue. According to preliminary findings by the Auburn Police Department, 29 year old Jonah King of New Gloucester was traveling southbound on Washington Street when his vehicle ran a red light.
King’s car collided directly with a tractor trailer driven by Peter Fontaine of North Waterboro. Investigators confirmed that Fontaine was making a legal left turn from Kittyhawk Avenue onto Washington Street under a green traffic signal when the impact occurred.
First responders from the Auburn Fire Department rushed King to Central Maine Medical Center for initial emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Fontaine was not reported injured.
The Auburn Police Department's crash reconstruction unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash, with assistance from the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.
