TOWN OF CLINTON, N.Y. - A motorcyclist sustained severe, life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon following a collision with a commercial tractor-trailer along Hollow Road in Dutchess County.
New York State Police troopers from the Rhinebeck barracks responded to reports of a two-vehicle personal injury crash at approximately 3:40 p.m. near 41 Hollow Road, situated between State Route 9G and West Cookingham Road.
Preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle and the semi-truck collided along the rural two lane stretch. Emergency medical personnel treated the motorcycle operator at the scene before airlifting the victim via LifeNet helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for specialised trauma care.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the incident and remained on site to cooperate with investigating officers.
First responders shut down Hollow Road in both directions between Route 9G and West Cookingham Road for several hours to allow crash reconstruction specialists to map the scene and clear the vehicles. Local authorities diverted traffic onto surrounding secondary roads through Monday evening before reopening the thoroughfare.
The New York State Police are leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision. Authorities have not yet released the names of either driver pending further medical updates and family notification.
